What is Digital Enterprise?

Digital Enterprise is a well-established business support programme that launched in 2016, and since then have been helping businesses across West Yorkshire to invest in the right digital technologies to support their growth plans.

The next tranche of funding, the third round (hence Digital Enterprise 3), has been secured to continue providing this vital support and offer grants for up to 50% of project costs ranging from £2,000 – £25,000.

New for Digital Enterprise 3 is the offer of a small number of match-funded grants to support digital projects worth between £25,000 – £100,000 that could have a significant and transformational impact on your business.

Who is eligible for a match funded grant as well as practical advice and support to help businesses invest in digital?

For Digital Enterprise 3, your business can be supported if you’re focused on growth, have been trading for a minimum of 3 years, you’re based, or have operational premises, in West Yorkshire, whether that’s Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds or Wakefield, and you’re VAT registered (or can demonstrate an annual taxable turnover that meets or exceeds the VAT threshold).

Focus is on supporting businesses with 5 to 100 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) as they scale their operations. However, exceptional projects may be considered from smaller or larger businesses based on their potential impact.

If your business has less than 5 employees, you’ll need to demonstrate your commitment and a substantive plan to becoming a growth company. If your business has more than 100 employees, you’ll need to demonstrate that your project couldn’t be completed within a reasonable timescale without support from Digital Enterprise.

Your business can be supported if it trades in a Business-to-Business (B2B) environment and/or a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) environment.

If you’re a B2C business, then funding can be offered if you can demonstrate that more than 50% of your turnover comes from customers outside of West Yorkshire, or that your project will significantly boost turnover from your customers based outside of West Yorkshire.

How is Digital Enterprise Funded?

Digital Enterprise is being delivered by Leeds City Council and is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

In West Yorkshire the West Yorkshire Combined Authority leads the implementation of the Fund as part of the Mayor’s ambition to make West Yorkshire the best place to work, learn and live.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.

The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
