In this blog, we thought we’d look back at a few changes in the digital world since we started Time Communications in February 2001 – 23 years ago

2001, this was the year that the Nokia 5510 Mobile phone was launched. WOW what a phone!

It had a full QWERTY Keyboard, a huge 84 x 84 monochrome display and get this, you could play music on it!

With a full 64Mb of storage for songs, what a device!

But…..we still had six years to go before the very first iPhone was released, yes it was 2007 when Smartphones became ‘a thing’

So how did we manage our Social Media – simple – there wasn’t any!

In 2001 there weren’t any of the following:

Facebook

LinkedIn

YouTube

Instagram

Twitter

TikTok

Android

Bitcoin

iPad

Gmail

Netflix streaming

Amazon Prime

Podcasts

WhatsApp

Google Maps

Snapchat

Zoom

Spotify

Airbnb

Uber

None of the above existed – Smartphones didn’t exist – how did we manage?

Alexa may have been someone’s nickname and “The Cloud” was a just weather term.

Tracking someone by satellite, via street cameras or GPS on their phone still seemed like science fiction

And in business telecoms, Cloud Telephony didn’t exist. We were talking to all of our clients about the end of analogue telephone systems as ISDN took over – today it’s the the same delivery but the characters have changed from Analogue being replaced by ISDN, to ISDN being replaced by Cloud today.
